  • The 13 colonies were very busy and everyone had work to do.
  • Differences Between Life in the City and Life at the Farm
  • 90% of colonists lived on farms. Working at farms required lots of Colonists completed chores like cutting wood, feeding animals, making fences and farms,  caring for children, and tending crops. They also had small simple homes with a fireplace as the source of heat and cooking.
  • Similarities Between Life in the City and Life at the Farm

  • 5% of colonists lived in cities. Cities were small and life was bustling in this area. CIties were noisy and smelly places. Cities had a lot of filth outside. Colonists would throw all their trash outside into the streets, Houses were built very close together. If a fire took place, it would spread very easily to other houses. There were many people on the streets and there was a good amount of business in this area
  • Daily Life Today
  • 90% of colonists lived on farms and 5% of colonists lived in cities. Cities were crowded, noisy, and smelly whereas farms were widespread. Farms had simple homes and many chores while the city always didn't have simple homes and as many chores. There was more education in the city than on farms.
  • Farms and cities all consisted of colonists and people were busy. There was work in both areas. "Bees" and "frolics" were held in both areas too. Kids would play games in both areas too. 
  • Spelling Bee
  • Life today is much different. We have different clothing, houses, and sources of transportation. We also have ways to get electricity. Solar panels are used for getting electricity which was unknown in the time of the 13 colonies.
