Storyboard Text

  • We are concerned about our child's first year at this school.
  • I understand, which is why I always create supportive and empathic learning environments that are safe spaces conducive to learning.
  • We want to make sure he feels comfortable and is supported.
  • VERY GOOD! What other ways helped other friends solve this problem?
  • For the problem 5X4, I just counted by 5's 4 times and got 20!
  • I drew an array of 5 rows with 4 in each row and I got 20!
  • I drew 5 groups of 4 in each group and got 20!
  •   Don't you worry! I will keep helping you and it will get easier and easier. Multiplication IS tricky, but everyone struggles, even I do!
  • Yeah, I was struggling with my 6's but I'm getting better every day!
  • Multiplication is rough! We're never going to figure it out!
  • I know how you feel! I didn't think I'd ever learn, but I've been getting better and you can too!
  • During a parent/teacher conference, Mrs. Smith sits down with the parents of a student who has recently transferred into the class as they express their concerns with Mrs. Smith.
  • We would love to do more 3-digit subtraction!
  • We would like to do more multiplication problems so that we keep practicing!
  • So, class, are their any concerns or ideas you'd like to share to help you in math?
  • Maybe we can pair up and help each other!
  • Mrs. Smith explains how she maintains a supportive learning environment by allowing students to have a chance to show their own unique and preferred approaches.
  • We can make a number line!
  • Let's all think about how we can solve 381-125 and then you will pair up and share with your partner how we can get the answer!
  • That's a great idea!
  • Let's try to expanded form of subtraction!
  •  Mrs. Smith continues to explain to the parents how she also creates an empathetic learning environment for her students.
  • I will make sure your son feels just as safe and supported as the rest of my 4th graders! I am looking forward to having him in my class!
  • Mrs. Smith explains how she also always creates a safe space and allow her students to express themselves and gives them the ability to have a voice in the classroom.
  • Mrs. Smith continues to express the importance of giving students the opportunity to contribute to the class and allow students to share and feel valued.
  • The parents gain a better understanding of the teachers' approach to teaching and feel more at ease regarding their child's 4th grade year.
  • Oh, wow, that sure does sound like a very supportive and empathic learning environment!
  • I think our son will feel very safe and learn a lot in your class, Mrs. Smith. Thank you!
