  • In 1154 Henry II and his advisor Thomas Becket were a good team.
  • Henry tried to make courts fair for all, but the church had their own courts and the clergy were not treated the same as everyone else.
  • in 1161, Henry made Thomas Becket the Archbishop of Canterbury to help him, but Becket started to champion the rights of the church.
  • Henry and Becket argued as Becket was doing things without the King's permission.
  • Becket disagreed with the King about trying church cases in a normal court so he ran away to France as he was in danger.
  • Henry asked the Archbishop of York to crown his son as the next King of England, Becket was furious.
