In 1154 Henry II and his advisor Thomas Becket were a good team.
Henry tried to make courts fair for all, but the church had their own courts and the clergy were not treated the same as everyone else.
in 1161, Henry made Thomas Becket the Archbishop of Canterbury to help him, but Becket started to champion the rights of the church.
Henry and Becket argued as Becket was doing things without the King's permission.
Becket disagreed with the King about trying church cases in a normal court so he ran away to France as he was in danger.
Henry asked the Archbishop of York to crown his son as the next King of England, Becket was furious.
