  • In 1689, King James left the throne after both parties were against him. William and Mary had a plan to take over and shared the throne after James left.
  • Bill Of Rights:-no excessive bail-no cruel/unusual punishments-no excessive fines
  • Parliament
  • Parliament wrote the Bill of Rights that limited the sovereign's power. It made Parliament have more control and didn't allow the sovereign to suspend laws, dispense laws, or many other things without the Parliament agreeing.  
  • Parliament also forbade sovereign from imposing taxes. Parliament had to agree (consent) before it was allowed.
  • Parliament wrote in the Bill of Rights that you don't need excessive bail. They also said they won't require excessive fines and cruel and unusual punishments towards the people.
