Maui hid in the hull of his brother's boat with his fishing line. When his brothers were too far out to return he revealed himself, to the surprise of his brothers.
Maui started a karakia and cast his line overboard. The hook went to the bottom of the sea and got taken immediatly
The fish was very heavy, his brothers had to help him pull it up.
Maui left to find his ancestors in Hawaiki. While he was gone his brothers started chopping at the massive fish. The fish became the known as the North Island or Te Ika a te Maui
