  • CONFLICT
  • RISING ACTION
  • After school was over for the summer the children left and began to collect rocks for the lottery.
  • CLIMAX
  • The lottery is happening which means that one member of one family is going to get stoned. 
  • FALLING ACTION
  • This is not fair!
  • Everyone arrives at the time square and the lottery begins. One representative entered a paper into the black box. The Hutchinson family is the family to win the lottery and goes up to the black box. Mr. Summers puts five pieces of paper into the box one for each member of the Hutchinson family.
  • RESOLUTION
  • Everyone pulls out their piece of paper from the black box. Tessie’s paper has a black dot on it while everyone else's does not.
  • Tessie begins to yell that this isn’t fair not right. Everyone at the village square for the lottery drawing begins to gather all their stones.
  • Tessie gets hit in the head with a stone. The villagers continue to throw stones at Tessie as Old Man Warner encouraged them to.
