The first stage of Meiosis is Interphase. Here, the chromosomes are replicated through the S phase and they are made of two sister chromatids.
However, Prophase is where the real action starts. Chromosomes condense and synapsis occurs . Two homologous chromosomes attract to form a tetrad. This is where Crossing Over comes into effect. The chromosomes switch tetrads and created a variation of tetrads. After crossing over, the spindle begins to form and attach onto the centriole.
In Metaphase, The tetrads simply align themselves on the Metaphase plate. The tetrads pair up and are attached to opposite spindles. They align in random pairs to create genetic variation.
Next, Anaphase pulls the tetrads using the attached spindles towards the poles. This leads into Telophase, where each pole has a pair of chromosomes.
In telophase, Cytokinesis occurs which separates the pairs of tetrads into independent daughter cells. The nuclear membrane forms around these tetrads and these steps of Meiosis result into two daughter cells with unique characteristics.
