A student, D. , repeats threatening behavior toward teacher daily. Teacher recognizes play for attention but cannot risk any humiliation. Finally, the teacher agrees to fight, but out in the hall where all can see. Eye contact battle ensues, with mean looks and stares. A face, a gesture or comment comes to mind and the teacher breaks the student's concentration. They get closer and begin to laugh together, entering the class arm-in-arm and happy with "the show." The conflictive comments stop, and D. goes on to improve his school performance.
