Mandela decided to return to South Africa to resume the campaign of sabotage. To be followed by the so-called Operation Mayibuye, in order to expand its activities.
On August 5, 1962, police arrested Mandela with Cecil Williams near Howick. He was locked enJohanesburgo accused of inciting workers to strike and leave the country without permission. Mandela was tried along with other detainees in the so-called Rivonia Trial. At the end of the trial he was sentenced to life imprisonment.
They were a success and would be the start of a first phase during which both Mandela with his organization, as Sobukwe with it, managed to kill tribal leaders traitors, but the government could derail much of the two organizations through their infiltrators.

By their jobs and call to violence, Nelson Mandela was never considered a prisoner of conscience by organizations such as Amnesty International and was described as terrorist by both the authorities and the South African regime by the UN.
