Flashback - 2006 First day of work.
Hooray! I'm so excited to finally be able to share my love of reading and learning with my students!
Hi! Welcome to my life. My name is Robyn Russell and this is my family. I have been a stay at home mom for the last 3 years.
Hello boys and girls, what can I help you find today?
We're learning about bees in class!
I became an elementary school teacher in 2006. I worked as a primary school teacher and a TOC. This is when I was first introduced to teaching in a library.
I got married and had a baby. During my maternity leave I found a posting for a part-time teacher librarian position. Because I had experience TOC'ing in a library I got the job!
Confession time. I love books. I love teaching and collaborating. But I am not very tech-savvy. So I am taking these courses so that I can learn and become a knowledgeable and current teacher librarian.
In my job I taught grades K-7. I read, did book check outs, helped with research. I loved the job but at the time there was very limited job opportunities in the library.
After I found out I was having another baby, I decided to take a few years off to stay at home with my kids. Now that I am returning to my job in September I have decided to take some courses to really pursue a career as a teacher-librarian.
