  • John F. Kennedy was born on May 29, 1917, in Brookline, Massachusetts. His family was very wealthy. John had eight other siblings and his parents were Joseph and Rose Kennedy.

  • John F. Kennedy graduated from Harvard in 1940 and then joined the Navy. He showed great leadership skills while he was in the Navy. One specific event was when he led others through dangerous waters to safety after his PT boat was sunk by a Japanese destroyer. In September of 1953, he married Jacqueline Bouvier.

  • After returning from a war, John F. Kennedy became a Democratic Congressman from the Boston area and then he advanced to Senate in 1953. He almost gained the Democratic nomination for Vice President in 1956. Eventually, he became the 35th president of the United States on January of 1961. 
  • Circumstances of Death
  • The Flexible response was the idea of having options for political and military responses that did not involve the use of nuclear weapons. The New Frontier was about Kennedy’s vision of progress. Programs include medicare, urban redevelopment, education and military reinvestment, international humanitarian aid, and space exploration.
  • John F. Kennedy was the first Catholic president. He believed that his religion would not negatively affect his actions as president and stated that, “So it is apparently necessary for me to state once again not what kind of church I believe in — for that should be important only to me — but what kind of America I believe in.”
  • On November 22, 1963, President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. Kennedy was in his Dallas, Texas taking part in a motorcade when Lee Harvey Oswald shot him three times. His wife was sitting right next to him in the back seats and witnessed this event. He was rushed to the hospital, but doctors were unable to revive him.
