Storyboard Text

  • The Donner Party
  • The Donner Family
  • The Donner Family had decided to go to California for a new, better and wealthier life in the new land of oppurtunity.
  •  You're probably right George.
  • Think about it Jacob, a new life in a new world!
  • The Reed Family
  • Oh dear Margaret the climate would be good for your headaches! And besides imagine the fortune we could make in California!
  • James Reed believed that the warmer climate in California would help his wife's migraines. But mostly he wanted to make a fortune in California. He was a good buisiness man and California would be the ideal place to go for men like him.
  • The Donner Party faced many hardships. One of them being the fact that they were dangerously behind schedule. The Donner Party started their journey on May 12th. When many pioneers made their journey in mid to late April, when the grass would be green for longer (for their livestock) and so they can hopefully miss winter. Not only did they start their journey late but because of the "short cut" they took adding about an extra month to their journey, their trip was unlikely to of worked out in the first place.
  • The Donner Party were trapped up in the slopes of the Sierra Nevada because of an early snow storm trapping them in. Because of this and the fact that many livestock and supplies were lost on the trails, the group soon felt the effects of starvation set in.
  • 'Fraid not Edwin
  • Are you sure we don't got more food?
  • The Donner Party, dying from starvation made a faithful decision which marked their journey as iconic. They decided to eat the dead of their own to survive. While not all of the emigrants decided to partake in these acts, the ones that didn't partake suffered the consequences as they chewed on tree bark and leather to feed themselves. And therefore some of those same people soon started to die from malnutrition.
  • I don't like it either... But we have to, to survive.
  • But we can't!
