Storyboard Text

  • Hi, My name is Miguel Hidalgo. I was a catholic priest who helped the Mexicans gain their freedom. Here is a little bit about me.
  • - Miguel was a born in 1753, and became a priest in 1778 - Hidalgo assumed his recently deceased elder brother’s duties as parish priest in Dolores in 1803
  • - His interest in the economic advancement of his parishioners, through the introduction of newer methods of agriculture, caused many spanish authorities to be wary of him. - His ideas about the oppression of people also caused many to regard him with suspicion.
  • -When his pro-independence plot came to the eyes of the Spanish, they tried to capture him, but instead of fleeing, he rang a bell and called fellow parishioners to come with him and revolt against the Spanish. His speech became known as the Grito de Dolores. -He marched under the banner of Our Lady of Gaudalupe.
  • -he was defeated at Calderón Bridge, outside Guadalajara, on January 17, 1811 -September 16, the anniversary of the Grito de Dolores, is now celebrated as Mexico’s Independence Day.
  • So, that's the general gist about me, hope you like it
