Buses and trains should be desegregated
In 1960 the Supreme Court ruled that buses and trains should be desegregated.
In 1961 the South Carolina CORE field secretary, Tom Gaither, proposed more rides in order to test the effect the Supreme Court ruling had.
The CORE director, James Farmer, led the first ride. The first ride started in Washington DC and was destined to New Orleans.
The bus was intercepted when they reached Anniston, Alabama and a group of Klansman punched their tires and hold the doors while they bombed the bus.
