In the beginning of the book Jonas is very niave. He follows the rules and he doesn’t question anything. “ the next day Jonas does his required voluntary hours”. This shows that he does what he is told.
Jonas stage 1/ selfless
Jonas becomes curious in the book The Giver. He becomes interested in the previous world and about the world he lives in now. Example is “while asking questions about release”. He becomes aware of the world he is living in.
Jonas stage 5/ ambitious ,
Jonas starts to lie during the middle of the book. He does this because it’s apart of his job and to protect his family. He has to stop taking medication, doesn’t tell his parents his dreams. He can also start asking questions. This is interlinked to being curious.
Jonas stage 6/ escape and persistence
Jonas starts to realise the love he has for Gabriel. He realises the truth about release. He finds out that Gabriel is going to be released. He starts to not think about himself, instead he is thinking and caring for Gabriel. He has an idea to save him....

Jonas and the giver have an idea to help Jonas escape with Gabriel. Jonas will wake up early and grab food from the left overs (which is breaking rules), he will then go across the river and escape in to the distance. He discusses his plan with the help of the receiver on the bed.
