  • As a result of the British acts, Colonist groups confronted Great Britain for their freedom, and against British laws. The groups included the Sons and Daughters of Liberty, the Correspondence Committee, and the First and Second Continental Congress.

  • The Sons of Liberty protested violently, tarred and feathered tax collectors attacked their houses and burned effigies. On the other hand, the Daughters of Liberty protested passively. They stopped consuming tea and spun their own yarns and made their own clothes to boycott the trade. Both groups maintained this until the beginning of the revolutionary war.

  • Almost a year after the war, The Declaration of Independence was written by Thomas Jefferson with a group of people from Virginia to convince the Continental Congress that they should separate from Britain. this document explained why the colonists should be free from the rule of Great Britain. Congress voted on July 2, 1776, in favor of the document, and on July 4, 1776, it accepted the Declaration of Independence. since then the USA is free
