Santiago is a poor, old, and weary man who has not caught a fish in 84 days.
Manolin, a boy, would like to fish with the old man but the old man is hesitant because of his awful luck
The old man, after further protest from the boy, believes that the 85th day will bring him luck; so he sets out for sea.
The old man sets far out to sea to finally catch a fish but, he's going far out, beyond average fisherman length
During the journey out on the waves, Santiago encounters many enemies and allies, resulting in many minor struggles that make the main objective to get the fish harder.
Suddenly, Santiago is attacked by sharks trying to steal his prized marlin from his grasps. Santiago fights with all that is left in him but, it is too late, the sharks rip apart his marlin, which he fought so hard for.
