After the death of his mother, a young serf, Crispin, runs away from his village.
That night in the woods, Crispin saw someone giving a letter to John Aycliffe, the steward of the village. The courier and the steward saw Crispin, and tried to kill him.
When he returned to the village the next morning, he realized he was a Wolf's Head. He was no lonmger considered human, and anyone cou kill him.
He left his village, and encountered an abandoned one. It's only inhabitant was a jester known as Bear. He proclaimed himself Crispin's new master.
Eventually however, they became friends. They conspired against feudal lords with John Ball. However, John Aycliffe captured Bear.
Crispin discovered he was the son of the dead lord. With this knowledge, he infiltrated the palace of the lord. He freed Bear, who killed John Aycliffe by throwing him at one of his own soldiers. Crispin was now free.
