During the time 1500 - 1290 B.C the Israelites had suffered slavery in Egypt. The work that the Egyptians forced on the Israelites was evil in motive and cruel in nature. before the promise of the land is fulfilled, Abram’s descendants will be slaves in a foreign land .Without the suffering of slavery, they would not feel the need for a savior.
Around the 1290 - 1000 B.C century Moses had led the Israelites out of Egypt in an event called the liberation and Yahweh formed the covenant at mount Sinai with the people. Moses goes up the first time into Mount Sinai and God announces to him the general terms of the covenant. A covenant is an agreement, compact or contract between two or more parties.

In 720 - 585 B.C The Kingdoms were taken over by the Assyrian empire. Then, it was overtaken by the Chaldeans. Thousands of Jews were forced to leave their homes behind, The city of Jerusalem was destroyed and a wreck.

In 538 - 515 B.C the Persians defeated the Babylonians in battle. After the battle King Cyrus allowed the exiled Jews to return to their homes. The battle was successful and the city of Jerusalem was rebuilt. Since the Jews did not have their own government, they had religious leaders such as temple priests and scribes.
During the 198 B.C - 6 A.D, the general of Egypt ruled Palestine until then Romans beat the Greeks in a navy battle. The Jews wanted independence and rebelled against the Greeks in a battle known as the Macabean war. The Jews were unsuccessful. The Jewish holiday of Hannukah came from this battle.
In 70 A.D - 1948 the Jews struggled to be free. Religion became the centre of their life and religion leaders called rabbis became very valuable to the Jewish community. In 1948 Palestine was divided and a new country called Israel was created. All the major disasters had come to an end and God was finally with them. They were all happy and felt safe.
