  • How does a bill become a law?
  • Well first, an idea is written up. It can be written by anybody, but a congress man or woman must introduce it to Congress.
  • Bill is Drafted
  • I should try to write a bill
  • What happens to it then?
  • Then it is introduced to Congress. If the idea has enough favor, it is sent on to the next stage.
  • Bill is Introduced to Congress
  • Bill is Referred to the Appropriate Committee
  • The idea is then sent to the appropriate committee. Different committee's are responsible for different topics.
  • Bill is sent to a subcommittee
  • It is then sent to a sub committee that evaluates it and votes on it.
  • It is then sent to a full comittee where it is voted on again. if it passes, it finally gets sent to the House.
  • Bill is Sent to a Full Committee
  • Then it is reported to the floor of the House or Senate. Here, they decide whether or not to place it on the calender for consideration.
  • Bill is Reported to the floor of the House or Senate
