This is Jim 6 months ago. He was studious, motivated, and out going.
This is Jim now. He has since become addicted to marijuana. He is depressed, apathetic, and doing bad in school.
Hey Jim. I haven't seen you in awhile. Would you like to go bowling sometime.
Have you guys seen Jim recently? He seems like a shell of his former self.
No thanks. I would rather get high.
Jim displays more than 6 of the problems listed in the DSM-V. This puts him in the severe category of substance abuse disorders
I don't like my life anymore. I want to stop smoking but I can't. I have a large tolerance now. I have cravings every day. I focus more on weed than on school. I care more about getting high than maintaining relationships with my family and friends. I have wasted time and money. My withdrawal symptoms are terrible!
We should treat him with respect. Mental illness runs in his family, and people with mental health disorders are more likely to abuse drugs.
