  • The pride of Athene and Arachne's pride has effected the lives of them both because Arachne thinks she is better that Athene.

  • I, goddess of craftsman, challenges you to a weaving contest to see who is best.
  • Arachne was a great weaver and is known throughout the village. Athene heard of this and went down as an old woman to warn her about the consequences of equaling a god. But Arachne's boast stands and does not back down from the challenge.

  • HOW DARE YOU INSULT THE HIGhER-UPS! YOU SHALL BE PUNISHED!
  • Arachne said, "...You would not speak to me, Arachne, of equaling work of Athene, EXCELLING is the better word." and that she "...don't fear Athene, I am not just boasting...Well do I know who will be victor." Shows that she has too much confidence in herself.
  • Conclusion
  • As the old woman, Athene was offended that Arachne thinks that she is better than her. So Athene throws off her disguise and challenges Arachne to a weaving contest.
  • Well, I know who will win and that would be ME.
  • "The grey-eyes of Athene the goddess, grew dark as the sea when a thunder cloud hung over it..." as Arachne started to boast.
  • Arachne's pride affected her life, as it insulted the goddess Athene.
