  • My poor husband(starts to sob)
  • EXPOSITION
  • •I'm sorry to have to tell you this, but there was any accident and your husband was......
  • Your husband was killed
  • •I'm sorry to have to tell you this, but there was any accident and your husband was......
  • RISING ACTION
  • CONFLICT
  • The setting is in a room in which we meet the characters.Since Mrs. Mallard has a heart condition, its hard for her sister Josephine and Richard,Mr. Mallard's friend to tell her of her husband's passing. It's truly a tragedy and there's a sad atmosphere in the room.Mrs. Mallard accepts the news and doesn't deny it. She starts to cry instantly and there's nothing the others can do to comfort her.She leaves the room so she can be alone.
  • CLIMAX
  • "FREE" I'm free. Thank the Lord!!!!!
  • Mrs. Mallard locks herself in her bedroom and sits in her armchair to grieve. From time to time she's overcome by sadness.Eventually she looks outside her window where spring is in the air. There's a blue sky with patches of white clouds. The birds are tweeting and soft music can be heard coming from the street. In this moment, all her senses come alive and there's something awakening in her. In this moment, her mood is shifting, but she doesn't know what it is yet.
  • FALLING ACTION
  • With her husband dead, what is she going to do?There's a conflict between her wants and views of society. Also a conflict concerning her emotions. As shown in the setting, there's a contrast between the blue sky and dark house. While she's mourning him,she wonders if she ever loved him.She thinks of all the time she had to do his will.Marriage has always weighted her down and this clashes with the idea that a women has to marry. There's a sense of joy coming and she's beginning to embrace it.
  • RESOLUTION
  • A major turning point in the story is when she realizes that she's free. She's no longer bound to him and doesn't have to worry about marital duties anymore. Before this tragedy, her life was boring and filled with completing household duties. Now she could live for herself and imagines a bright future ahead. It's surprising how quick her mood went from one of sadness to one of victory and joy.She was planning her future as if her husband never existed at all.
  • Josephine comes to check on her sister, Mrs. Mallard and begs her to come out. When Mrs. Mallard comes out, she walks down the stairs with her sister with an air of triumph on life.its's like all her problems have disappeared, but little did she know that her husband would walk in the house. Mrs. Mallard instantly dies and all the doctors had to say was that she died of happiness upon seeing her husband alive. How ironic!!!
  • The conflict was not resolve, but remained unsolved. Mrs. Mallard had her future planned out until it was crush by the reappearance of her husband. Her air of victory turned into one of shock and due to her heart condititon, she died. Her death wasn't one base on happiness as the doctors suggested, but one of shocked and crushed hopes at a better life for herself.
