Storyboard Text

  • Paul is being suspended from school. The faculty members lash out at him, however he only reacts by smiling. His mother died shortly after he was born and the teachers think that something is wrong with Paul. Paul is more flamboyant and different than the other students.
  • Paul loves music, theatre, and the arts in general. He works as an usher at Carnegie Hall. When the music of the symphony begins, Paul feels life through the music.
  • After the concert, Paul tries to follow the main soprano to her to her hotel, which he imagines to be luxurious. Paul longs to live a lavish life and leave his dull life behind him. Then, Paul realizes that he is just standing outside in the cold night.
  • Paul is upset to come back to his boring, middle class neighborhood. To prevent his father from seeing him, Paul climbs in through his basement window in the middle of the night. Paul wonders what would have happened if his father mistook him for a burglar and shot him. All night Paul thought about if his father would ever actually wish he shot him.
  • Eventually, Paul gets a job at Denny and Carson's office in New York City and He illegally got $1000. Paul uses his money to buy expensive clothes. Now that he was actually living an exciting and lavish life, Paul finally felt at peace with himself.
  • News had spread that Paul had stolen the money and his father was coming to find him. All of Paul's previous depression and memories of his former life came back to him. Paul went out to the train tracks in Pennsylvania and jumped out in front of a train. Some of the last images that flashed in Paul's mind were of the places in the world he wished to travel to. Right before he died, his bad visions came back to him. Paul was never able to have the life he wanted.
