Sargeant-Major Morris arrives at the White household with a monkey's paw to tell a story about it.
After Morris leaves, he leaves the monkey's paw with the White's. Morris also warned the family about what they wish for because they might pay for it. The White's were very happy that they had the monkey's paw so that they could use their wishes.
Mr. White decides to make his first wish. He wishes to pay off his mortgage so he wishes for 200 pounds. After he makes his wish, he feels the monkey's paw move in his hand. After a while Mr. and Mrs. White's son, Herbert, decides to leave for work.
The White's open the door for the visitor. The visitor is from the company that Herbert works at. He regrets to inform the White's that something went wrong with the machinery and Herbert was killed. He then offers the family 200 pounds for the services.
Days after teir sons death, Mrs. White gets the idea that they can wish their son back. Mr. White keeps insisting that it is a bad idea. Then he just decides to do it. Then they hear knocking on the door. "It's Herbert," cries Mrs. White. Then she goes to the door.
As Mrs. White struggles to open the door for her zombified son, Mr. White looks or the monkey's paw to make his last wish. After he makes his last wish, Mrs. White opens the door. The knocking stopped and there was no Herbert.
