When Oedipus got to the village Thebes, word got around that Oedipus had killed the Sphinx so Oedipus became King marrying Queen Jocasta.
Queen Jocasta and King Oedipus had four children, Eteocles, Polynices, Antigone and Ismene.
Years later, Creon wanted justice for the man the killed their earlier king, King Laius he made the prophet tell him who killed the King and the Prophet told everyone that it was indeed Oedipus. Oedipus went to court.
Another messenger came in to tell Oedipus that his father had just died. Oedipus was initially relieved, thinking Polybus was his real father and that he had not killed his real father, the messenger then explained to him that he was in fact adopted and that Polybus and Merope were not his biological parents.
Oedipus realised that he had in fact killed his father years ago, and that he had married his mother. Oedipus tried to find Jocasta who had fled moments earlier, only to find she hanged herself.
He then took a brooch from her gown, and using the pin, he pricked his eyes and blinded himself. He fled the city, guided by his daughter Antigone
