First, Russia got in a dispute with multiple countries including France, Great Britain, Turkey, and Sardinia because Russia wanted more land that was the Turks'.
The Turks had a lot of friends, so they overwhelmed Russia.
Russia was weakened. At home, Russia was also not doing well. Serfdom had weakened the country further.
It's not slavery, its serfdom.
Things were looking up for Russia. In 1861, Serfdom was abolished. A council known as Zemstvo was created to deal with localized affairs.
People were still not satisfied in Russia. On March 13, 1881, they killed the Czar, Alexander II.
Alexander III took the crown, but only for a short time.
