The people continued to beat Captain O'Connor and his clothes were soon torn to shreds. They threw mud at him and continued to punch and kick him. He was badly bruised and had lost most of his clothes to the angry mob. He also lost all of the tea he had stored in his jacket.
After the mob had finished with Captain O'Connor, another man attempted to steal some of the tea. The crowd spotted him and seized him. He was an older gentleman, so the crowd let him go, but some still kicked him on his way out.
