Storyboard Text

  • Well thats not true! You are always growing! Your cell are constantly dividing and it all starts in something called Interphase. Here in the Nucleus of your parent cell, you have strands of DNA. In Interphase, your cell performs basic life functions, and your DNA doubles itself so the cell that will be made will be the same DNA as the original.
  • Yeah, I feel like I'm not growing!
  • Oh... Is that all?
  • I I I I
  • Hey, you look sad!
  • I I I I I I I I
  • Then what's next?
  • Next, there is Prophase. During this process, the strands of DNA turn into compacted versions of themselves. These are called chromosomes. Also, things called spindle fibers start to stretch across the cell, and the membrane protecting the nucleus begins to dissolve.
  • Now what?
  • No, that's not all.
  • I think I get it so far...
  • Okay, now we begin Metaphase. Here, the chromosomes line up single file in the middle of the cell, and the spindle fibers attach to the centromeres, which are in the middle of the chromosomes.
  • Great! Then lets move on to Anaphase.
  • COOL!
  • Keep talking...
  • In Anaphase, the 2 sides of the "X" like structure of the chromosome get pulled to each side of the cell by the spindle fibers.
  • I I I I
  • I I I I
  • I know, right!
  • Interesting... It almost sounds like cytoplasm...
  • Right! good job!
  • So that's it?
  • Time to learn about Telophase. In this stage, the cytoplasm in the cell begins to split and the cell membranes begin to pinch.
  • Not quite. There is still one more stage left. It is called Cytokinesis.
  • Alright, Cytokinesis. In this final stage, the cytoplasm splits and the cell membranes become separate, forming 2 NEW DAUGHTER CELLS! Now your body can grow, develop, reproduce, perform basic life functions, and repair
  • Look! I'm growing! Thank you so much Mr. Deer, for teaching me to grow! Now I can grow whenever I want!
  • WOW!
  • Oh, brother...
  • I know!
  • I I I I
  • I I I I
