And I am to marry this handsome, courageous man, Theseus!
Later that day...
I am to marry off this wonderful pair!
One day in a Greek land a man called Theseus and a woman called Hippolyta announced that they were to be married.
The run away plans...
We must run away together, into the woods and secretly marry.
Later that day a man named Egeus decided that he wanted to marry off his beautiful, fair-haired daughter, named Hermia. He announced that she was to marry a selfish young man named Demetrius. Hermia was distraught.
I am being forced to marry Demetrius, but I don not love him! I am in love with Lysander.
Why wouldn't you want to marry such an amazing man like Demetrius?
In fact Hermia was so distraught that she refused to marry Demetrius as she was in love with a young man named Lysander. But her father Egeus wouldn't allow her to. Egeus was so furious with Hermia that he found Theseus and told him that Hermia was refusing to marry Demetrius.
Later that day Hermia went to her love, Lysander and told him that she was being forced to marry Demetrius. Lysander was so upset that he made up a plan to run away with Hermia. He told her that they would run away and get married in a temple alone.
I love you Lysander!
Hermia went to her best friend Helena and told her that she was going to run away and secretly marry Lysander. Helena was questioning why Hermia did not want to marry such a handsome man like Demetrius. But what Hermia didn't know was that Helena was secretly in love with Demetrius so she had a plan to tell Demetrius that Hermia was running with Lysander so that Demetrius might want to marry her for telling him.
The lovers packed and set off through the woods together to get married secretly in the temple.
