  • On May 5, 1789, King Louis XVI called the three estates together to discuss the social, political, and economic issues France were facing. 
  • There have been many issues going on in France
  • The Meeting  of the Estates General
  •   On June 1789, the Third Estate declared itself to be the National Assembly. Tennis Court was where the Assembly took place which was the Tennis Court. In the oath, they promised to not disband until they created a new national constitution. 
  •    You all have to promise to this.

  • On the morning of July 14, 1789, the revolutionaries approached the Bastille. They demanded that the military leader of the Bastille, Governor de Launay, to surrender the prison and hand over the gunpowder. He refused. The Bastille was rumored to be full of political prisoners and was a symbol of many of the oppression of the king. It also had stores of gunpowder that the revolutionaries needed for their weapons.

  • On August 26, 1789, the representatives of the French people constituted as a National Assembly and the document asserted the equality of men and the sovereignty of the people, on whom the law should rest, to whom officials should be responsible, and by whom finances should be controlled.

  • The Reign of Terror is a period of time in France during the French Revolution lasting from September 1793 to July 1794. The Reign of Terror was essentially created by the radical leader of the revolution which is Maximilien Robespierre. During the Reign of Terror, thousands of people were dying using the guillotine
