A breif story of his accomplishments during his life.
My explorer, Ferdinand Magellan, was born in Northern Portugal sometime around the year 1480. After many years of work and battling, Ferdinand Magellan began to work on sailing. By August 10, 1519, his journey had been paid for by the crown and his five boats and around 270 men began their expedition towards North America.
Magellan's main goal was to find a westward route to Asia. His idea was mostly infludenced by Christopher Columbus, who had recently found America. The main troubles that the crew faced was death. Many crewman had been lost, or had gotten injured too badly to work. Magellen was one of the people that died during a battle nearing the end of their trip, but his crew finished the journey without him.
Ferdinand Magellan and his crew were the first people to circumnavigate the Earth.
Ferdinand Magellan - Fun Facts! Of the 270 men that began the journey, only 18 actually made it back. Out of the 18 men that returned, 1/3 of them were names Juan. Strange, right?
Magellan participated in many battles before he began sailing, and this was how he received his permanent limp.
