Some began to form new Religious orders. One of those was the Jesuits (Society of Jesus). The Jesuits were founded in 1534 by the former soldier and basque noblemen Ignatius of Loyola. The Jesuit order was approved by the Pope in 1539.

The Council of Trent got rid of the selling of indulgences. They kept their belief that you need the church and ceremonies to be saved by God.
In 1545 Pope Paul III started the Council of Trent
In 1542 the church established a court called the Roman Inquistion to fight against Protestantism. Tried people who were accused of witchcraft, Protestantism, and breaking the church's laws. Their actions were seen as an abuse to the churches power and it still is seen that way today.
