  • Benjamin Franklin was born January 17, 1706. In Boston Massachusetts
  • Benjamin had a big family, he had in total 16 siblings. and during school he showed real talent in that area.
  • He would have to set the letters for the print and sell the newspapers door to door.
  • He became an apprentice to his father, a candle and soap maker.
  • In 1721 his brother founded the new England Courant. This was the second newspaper in America!
  • James,  Ben's brother, was put in jail for making fun of the clergy. Upon release he was unhappy that Ben kept the paper going.
  • Fast forward to 1733 and Ben started to publish Poor Richards Alamanack.
  • So in 1723, Ben ran away. This was illegal at the time. But he sailed to New York.
  • After this be became an activist and joined the world of politics. He went on to be one of the founding fathers. and helped write the declaration of independence.
  • In the 1740s he started focusing more on inventing. and in the 1750s he focused on electricity.
  • He used a kite in his experiment which verified the nature of electricity.
