Queen Elizabeth I of England and Phillip II of Spain fought for many reasons, one of them being religious differences. Elizabeth and England were Protestant but Phillip and Spain were Catholics.
The Spanish Armada, ordered by Phillip and used a crescent shape as their formation, however English ships were easily able to penetrate the formation. A horrible storm assisted the British in their battle against the Spanish.
The Armada was defeated and many ships were abandoned and sunken off the coast of England.
