Husband and Wife, Mr. James and Sarah Hoda, live in Oakland, California. They live a very normal life, where James is a firefighter and Sarah is a full time artist. The narrator expresses the twos love and trust for each other.
One night there was a party in Oaklands local warehouse, where Sarah's art was being shown. She went to the nightclub while James went on his shift at the fire department.
While James is at work, his co-worker receives a call exclaiming that a fire has been sighted at a local building. James, unknown to the location, suits up and goes out to help those in need.
The fire that James had been notified about was coming from the warehouse that Sarah was partying at. Everyone at the nightclub saw the fire and began looking for an escape.
James arrives at the scene and begins helping those who need it. He enters the building to find Sarah, having trouble breathing, and with multiple burns. As James panics over his wives well being, Sarah falls unconscious, and they somehow manage to escape.
James, unharmed and seen as a hero, rushes Sarah to the hospital. Sadly, he is too late. Sarah is pronounced dead and James is distraught. They both struggled with the blaze, but had very different outcomes in terms of their well-beings.
