Storyboard Description

Primary and Secondary

Storyboard Text

  • Primary Succession: A volcano erupts and destroys all remains of a community, including the soil and all plants.
  • A pioneer species eventually comes into the abandoned area and starts to grow. It breaks down rocks and other things for nutrients to create soil, then Plants can grow again.
  • The community begins to grow again and eventually, it becomes a successful working ecosystem again. It is different from before the volcano though.
  • Secondary Succession: A disaster like a Hurricane or Tornado comes in and tears up an ecosystem, leaving nothing but the soil and roots from the plants.
  • The soil allows for life to start growing again much more quickly then primary succession. The plant roots help more plant life to grow.
  • Eventually the ecosystem grows back to the way it was, full of animals and plants.
