  • Individualistic Development of the Greeks
  • The first people to populate the Greek peninsula were the Mycenaeans and Minoans. Although they did not leave many written or physical historical evidence for their civilization, we know that the Minoans occupied Crete, an island south of Greek mainland by 1650 BCE. (pg 114)
  • Persian War (490-479 BCE)
  • The Persian War was a series of conflicts between the Greek states and Persian Empire. Throughout the many battles in the war, Greek culture was spread throughout the states. The Greeks won the war in the end, losing many less men than the Persian Empire.(pg 122-123)
  • Golden Age of Athens (500-300 BCE)
  • The Golden Age of Athens was a time filled with advances in science, technology, literature, and more. These 200 years was one of the most successful times for the Greeks and their culture, as many ideas founded in the Golden Age are still used today. (
  • Peloponnesian War (431-403 BCE)
  • The Peloponnesian War was a 27 year long war between ancient Greece's two leading cities, Athens and Sparta. The war's impact on Greek civilization includes the restructure of Athen's imperial system and the entire course of the Greek military's history. (pg 125)(
  • The Hellenstic Age is the age following the death of Alexander the great, lasting until the Roman domination.Before his death, Alexander spread the empire from Greece all the way to India. Throughout this age, Greek culture and ideas spread and dominated from the Eastern Mediterranean to Asia. (pg 128)
