Peter the Great was born in Moscow, Russia and followed the Russian Orthodox religion. When Peter first began his rule, he was not an absolute ruler because he shared the throne with his half brother. When his brother died Peter began to rule alone and finally became absolute ruler.
In 1697, Peter visited the west. Being an absolute ruler, he then tried to Westernize Russia by changing the way Russians dressed, acted, ate, and more.
Peter wanted to create a seaport that made traveling the west easier to promote education and growth. To do so he had to wage a war on Sweden and move an entire capital city. Peter was an absolute ruler because he possessed the power to do these things.
