Storyboard Text

  • The U.S. was very mad at England because they were interfering with american trading ships to France, capturing and taking captive american sailors, and helping the native Americans attack the U.S.
  • I am very mad!!!
  • So the president asked congress to declare war on England. Even though a large amount of New England merchants opposed it ,because it would mean that they might have to stop shipping and would be put out of a job, in the end congress did declare war on England.
  • Most of the war was fought on water, and that meant that the Americans were at a disadvantage because the British had the most powerful navy in the world at that point in time.
  • During the first part of the battle the American Oliver Hazard Perry's ship was hit and began to sink. but he did not give up, he climbed into a small row boat with the rest of his crew and boarded the British ships. Because of his bravery he won that battle.
  • They're coming in a dingy, they do not pose a threat, focus on their bigger ships.
  • The British were also helping the native Americans in attacking U.S. citizens. this was the second reason that the president wanted war on Britain.
  • And finally the British were kidnapping American sailors and making them work as slaves on the British ships.
