  • Symbol
  • Imagery
  • Figurative Language
  • My symbol is the stones. The stones symbolize the villagers working together. It isn't just one person killing another with a stone. Everyone in the village grabbed and stone and killed Ms Jackson together. On Line 25 it says "Old Man Warner was saying come on, come on, everyone."
  • Tone/Theme
  • My Imagery is a clear and sunny day. It says this lines 1-2 "Clear and Sunny with fresh warmth of a full summer day". Usually a sunny brings a good mood shows that something good is going to happen but the opposite does. Someone ends up getting killed.
  • My figurative language is personification. On lines 64-65 it says" The black box grew rubbish". This shows that they've been doing this tradition for a long time. Even though other towns have chose to stop they still keep doing the lottery. Maybe the people enjoy participating in the lottery.
  • The Tone I chose was suspenseful. On lines 311-312 states " The pile o stones the boys had made earlier was ready". In a normal lottery a person wins a reward. This makes the reader question why there is rocks piled up and what does it mean that they are ready.
