"The morning of June 27th was clear and sunny, with the fresh warmth of a full-summer day." When reading that line from the story I knew that the setting was during a hot sunny day, and that the sky was a light blue color. There weren't that many people in the village, it was about 300 people living there.
"The children tended to gather together quietly for a while before they broke in "boisterous play". That line described a metaphor because the word boisterous is applied to an action to which is not literally applicable. The picture shows a group of kids playing on a sunny summer day.
the tone is suspenseful because in the beginning of the story you are very confused on what type of lottery the author is talking about. readers began to have suspense on what kind of lottery is being told, but later on in the article you'll finally see what type of lottery the book is talking about and it will have you very shook/surprised. in the story people are getting chosen to die, and in our world one person is chosen to win money which is similar to the story's lottery.
