  • Mr. Summers could be symbolisied as Effie Trinnket. From The Hunger Games, Effie was the person to pull Primrose name out of the bowl. During the picking of each disrict, it was also at random and no one knew who was being pick for the games.
  • Tone / Theme
  • "The black box grew splintered badly along the side to show the original wood color, and in some places faded or stained."   Line 64 - 67. This makes people see that maybe this tradition is getting old. This relates to the box because it's color is fading and getting whore out. this quote also makes people see the black box, and imagen it in there mind.
  • Allegory - "It isn't fear, it isn't right," Mrs. Hutchinson screamed, and than they were upon her." Line 328 - 329. This is an example of allegory because it means there's a story behind that main story. In this example, Mrs. Hutchinson got stoned but it seems like she starting to make people think that this tradition needs to end.
  • hTheme-Tradition - They do this ever year, longer than the oldest man in the village. Each box is representing a year of the lottery, even though they've been doing this for 72 years. Therefore it's a tradition, because it's a long-established custom or belief that has been passed on from one greneration to another.
