  • My symbol is Tessie. When i think of what the Tessie is symbolizing i feel like she is a symbol of people's hate for each other. On page 31 line 229 Tessie says " you didn't give him enough time" . Everyone was putting her off including her husband. Also at the end Mrs. Delacroix picked up a rock so big she had to hold it using two hands to do maximum damage to Tessie.

  • The image i chose was the Box. "The black box now sitting on the stool had been put to use even before old man Warner ,the oldest man in town, was born."  the imagery of the black box symbolizes tradition and how over time things can e warped. like if u were playing telephone u might have an idea of what the first person said u might not know exactly how things go.
  •
  • the figure of speech i chose was personification. "the black box grew sharper." when i think to this i think of a black box with thorns coming out of it. This is personification because a box cant change is state like it can't get sharper. I think this statement is trying to say it got older and more mature
  •
  • The theme i chose was that they didn't like to break tradition.  "Mr summers spoke frequently about change but no one liked to upset tradition." the black box is connected to warped tradition as the people used it for generations and they even used pieces from the old black box. the people got angry when they herd that other villages stopped doing the lottery  because their breaking tradition.
