In the begining of the story, the author makes everything seem so happy and warm. He describes how school is out for the summer and how the grass is richly green.
The author gives a lot of tension on who's going to get the slip of paper with the black dot. The author was descriptive on the charater's reactions.
This is horrific, because the people in the town are throwing stones at her to make the population go down. The thought of throwing stones at someone until they're dead is horrific.
The symbol is the black box. The black box means that there is going to be a lottery , and whoever gets chosen will have to be hit with the stones. Another symbol is the stones. Everyone knows that the stones is to throw at the person who picked the slip of paper with the black dot.
The imagery the author gave was how everything was warm and exciting with the kds out for summer and all the flowers blossoming and grass richly green.
The metaphor is to the actual lottery. They use this box,and slips of paper to choose a person to get picked to die. The lottery we have is we buy a slip of paper with numbers on it, and if someone has that slip of paper they get a lot of money.
