  • On September the 25th 1066 King Harold Godwinson headed north with an army to surprise Tostig, Harald and their army of around 6,000 people. Tostig, Harald and the army were chilling, unarmed and waiting for supplies. All of Harold Godwinson's army crossed swam through the water to get to the other side because the bridge was heavily guarded.

  • Although they didn't have any proper weapons they used the things they had around them to defend themselves. There was 1 brave person in Harald army and he was a crazy axeman and he defended the bridge really well. This was until one of Harold Godwinsons men floated in a barrel under the bridge and stabbed him with a spear. Harald Hadrada was also shot in the in the air pipe and was killed.

  • On the 14th of October both the Saxons and the Normans prepared for battle. When it was signalled both sides started to fight- both defending well. The battle went on for hours. The Normans found a tactic that worked well and it caused Harold to get shot just under the eye. He was killed and torn to shreds by the Normans.

  • Most of the Saxons/English retreated due to the death of the king and because of this William won the war and was considered "the conquer".

  • After the news spread about the death of Harold Godwinson Edgar was quickly proclaimed by the Witan but was never crowned.
  • In late October the English surrendered the crown the William the conquere as they marched towards them. On Christmas Day 1066 he was crowned king.
