  • "...they'll be wanting to live in caves..."
  • "...They do say,...talking of giving up the lottery."
  • In "The lottery" the stones are used towards the beginning and the end of the story/. For the stones represents death, violence , and rage. Being the fact were first in the stones seemed innocent. But when they were used the stones were thrown at Ms. Hutchinson  were suffered the lottery of being stoned, which allowed for her to die. Without the stones "The Lottery" would have now repercussions of Ms. Hutchinson getting the black dot.
  • Tone and Theme
  • Based on the story of the Lottery, the black box is described "The black box grew shabbier bodily along one size to show the original wood color, and same places faded or stained." This basically describes the shades of the black box, for how old it is and basically the black box is old. For the lottery is a traditional routine for 70 years and they been using the box ever since. SO this quote describes the age of the box and old and long it's been used.
  • In story of "The Lottery'' Mr. Adams talks about how theirs rumor in the northern villages, of taking away the lottery. Well since Old Man Warner have been doing in the Lottery so for many years he gets a little upset. According to the text in Lines 196-197 Old Man Warner says that "Next thing you know, they'll be wanting to go back to living in caves, nobody work any more, live that way for a while." This is a type figure of speech that is called allusion or synedoche, were Old Man Warner doesn't really want people to live in caves.  But in society it seems that nobody want's to work anymore.
  • The story, ''The Lottery", gives tones and themes to help emphasize the story. Based on what I read in Lines 258-260, it expalines Mrs.Hutschinsons tone, by saying "I think we ought to start over...I tell you it wasn't fair. You didn't give him enuff time. Everybody say it." This sort of tone shows a tone of cruelty, were it seems everbody feeling cruel to Ms.Hutchinson to her, based on an unfair advantage which she seems is wrong and unfair. Alos it demonstrates theme on how life is unfair. Not everty thing will bethe way you expect it to be.
  • "I tell you it wasn't fair..."
