Storyboard Text

  • Symbol
  • Do it!
  • No, please. It isn't fair.
  • Imagery
  • We have the best stones!!
  • Yeah and you can't have any.
  • Figurative Language
  • I will trick all of you.
  • In this picture, Tessie is scared because she is about to be stoned by the people. I chose the stones as a symbol of death, which has come upon Tessie during the lottery. Everyone has gathered around for this annual event, and although it seems as it should be a good thing, it is very bad for one person.
  • Although, there is a lot of imagery shown through out the story, I picked two. The first one I chose was how the day was 'clear and sunny', and I represented this by having a sun in the center of the picture. The second piece of imagery I chose was how the boys made a pile of stones in one corner, and I showed this by piling up the stones to the right.
  • Tone & Theme
  • This is how to make things better!
  • A figurative language I chose was how The Lottery stood as a metaphor for death. The second figurative language I chose was how The Lottery represents irony. The Lottery shows this by implying that there is a good outcome and you will win, when you really lose and get stoned.
  • The tone I chose for the story was anticipation, because you couldn't tell what would happen next or how things were going to play out. The theme I thought was best for the story was violence. The violence is shown through out the story, as you think the people of the town are nice and civilized, but when it comes time for The Lottery everyone is 'violent'.
