Today, we learned about the single-lens microscope. It was invented by Zacharias Janssen.
Anton Van Leeuwenhoek made over 500 hundred optical lenses and 25 microscopes! But only nine survived.
Matthias Jakob Schleiden proposed that all plants are made up cells.
Robert Brown was a botanist who discovered the nucleus in plant cells. Robert Hooke discovered cell walls in corks!
Theodor Schwann came to the conclusion that not only plants, but animals too, were made of cells!
It's true! Albrecht von Roelliker also discovered that eggs and sperm are cells too!
Rudolf Virchow added the third part to the cell theory. That all cells come from existing cells! Interesting, huh?
Carl Heinrich Braun reworked the whole cell theory, and stated that cells are the basic unit of life!
Imagine if there weren't any cells...
