Two attackers used the 'GitHub' software, also used by Uber software engineers, to hack into the system.
Also, they obtained there to access data stored on an Amazon Web Services account that handled computing tasks for the company. From there, the hackers discovered an archive of rider and driver information
They then emailed Uber, asking them for money in return of them deleting the data and all traces of the attack.
Uber failed to trade with the attack in the right way and covered up what happened by buying the attackers silence for a sum of $100,000.
attackers walk away with a large amount of money an agree to delete the data.
The attack later became public and Uber were fined a further $20,000 for the incident.
